Idiot of the Week, maybe Year, Award

Just a short one before I head out to be shopping slave for the wife a chivalrous husband. The award goes to Sulthan Niaz for his letter to the Straits Times forum. A longer, less rude response will be coming soon, but for now, let's just say that the sheer idiocy of his letter is causing ysunamis of laughter and anger across the blogosphere.

Welcome to a more liberal world, Sulthan Niaz, where you have deservedly earned our collective mockery with your stupidity, and where it will be spotlighted, derided, scorned, and scoffed at for our pleasure. Better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt is a lesson you should learn. Enjoy the award, moron.

Democratic plot to turn US into Greece

You know the Republicans know a French plot when they see one. Except in this case it's a Democratic plot to turn the US into Greece. The sharp minds of Eric Cantor, Ron Paul, Michele Bachmann and Todd Tiahrt says so, so it must be true.

From the "you've gotta be kidding me" dept

A Sydney, Australia jury acquitted a man of all rape charges last Friday, reaching the verdict because the woman was dressed in skinny jeans at the time of the attack. My translation for the article, written in Mandarin, is that the jury believes it is impossible for the attacker to remove those jeans without consent and cooperation from the woman.

No Singapore lady has ever won an international beauty pageant which prompted some to suggest importing foreigners to represent Singapore for us to stand a good chance of winning!

Nikon's Public Relations faux pas

Nikon makes great products. I love their D700 and their D3/D3x. Even the D300 looks fantastic. But something they've always tripped up on is their PR, so it was no surprise when I read that they bungled up their party at the Chicago BlogHer '09 conference. They hosted a party at a restaurant that had a "no babies allowed" rule, which wouldn't be a problem if this was BlogBachelor '09.

A simple case of rights and stupidity, not race

Updated on Monday, July 27, 2009 at 1:52PM by Registered CommenterCallan Tham

The recent arrest of Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr has caused major reactions in the US, and sadly has been an unnecessary incident dominating the headlines when the healthcare debate should be up front and center in this sensitive stage. But the fact that the arrest happened deserved to be made news; not because of the possible racial profiling that some have suggested, and not because of the way Obama claimed the arresting officer 'acted stupidly'.

Marriage is more than just sex

A petition has been started to gather support for the repealing of Sections 375(4) and 376A(5) of the Singapore Penal Code; these are provisions in the law that grant immunities to marital rape under a specific set of circumstances. I have signed the petition because I, like the 1,355 other signees, believe that rape is rape. Marriage does not grant the right to abuse, whether it be physical, psychological or sexual, and this applies to both parties in a marriage.
