Gwee finds silver lining

One year after the AWARE power tussle, Gwee Li Sui looks back to find his fellow Christians more willing to speak out against the more hardline members of their congregation after the saga caused them so much "sudden hurt and distrust" among non-Christian Singaporeans.

Our children pays for our political myopia

Allowing ourselves to be distracted from the real issues by being thankful of our current situation has never and will never make sense to me.

This is the Singapore story: Study hard, work hard, and you can pull yourself out of poverty.

I wish to remind the younger generation of where we have come from, and not to take what Singapore is now for granted. Today, I live in an HDB maisonette. Thank you, Singapore.

What I DON'T appreciate

Despite the near constant stream of dissent emanating from this blog, I have to concede that I do, in fact, appreciate some facets of Singapore. We have a safe and secure environment with low crime rates. We have a pretty good infrastructure, accessible transportation, available education, well-developed and stable business environment. We are not terribly impacted by earthquakes or volcanic eruption or such terrible manifestations of Mother Nature's wrath. We get our rubbish cleared every day. We do not experience strikes or mass protests or large-scale social unrest. All things that should not be taken for granted.
