It's...alive?
Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 4:21PM Holy shit, it's been six months since my last post. Turns out time flies regardless of how much (or little) fun you're having. Obviously many things have happened since that last post, so I guess I'll just recap a few significant events while I get back in the swing of blogging again.
I have made some small changes to the site layout to reflect something I have been getting back into: photography. I have never lost the passion for it, but there are only 24 hours in a day, and opportunity cost matters. I have created a landing page to display the latest picture I like, as well as a Gallery where I post my latest work. Feedback on the layout is very welcome.
There are plans to start my own photgraphy business, one I believe will be a successful venture, given the people involved. It will be a long road ahead of us, but it is one that I will take with confidence.
For the BBB MTL1 crowd, I have sold my 50D and 70-200 f/4L in favour of a 5D Mark II and a 135 f/2L. This is a great fit for what I'm doing more of, namely portraiture and wedding work. I died a little inside when I sold the 70-200; it was my favourite lens, great sharpness, contrast, and colours, focused quickly and accurately and handles like a dream. It just had to go because I wasn't using it much. I do not regret the 5DII and 135 purchase though. The image quality produced is a significant step up from the 50D.
I have also added an EOS-3 film camera to the arsenal, along with lots of slide film. The EOS-3 makes me happy and sad at the same time, because it is fantasticI have been growing fonder of Provia 100F as I shot more of it, and Sensia is great for portraits. The only colour negative film that impressed me was Ektar 100, and I'm likely to keep to that when I want to shoot negatives. For B&W I still prefer T-Max 400's clarity and contrast. They're a pain to develop right, but when you do, it looks great.
All of that makes me a happy man, but one piece of news still trump them all.
I'm gonna be a father in August.
There are no words to describe that feeling, at least nothing that can convey anything close to how I feel. Most importantly, we're happy. And that is worth more than anything I can imagine right now. Wish us luck.
In the meantime, The Swamp will be back with more politics and policy posts, along with more pictures and photography-related topics. Pick your poison folks. Cos I'm BAAAACK.

OH MY GAWD! What a way to start writing again. Congrats man! Now I will have some one to talk socio-political stuff to!
Can I be ur child's godfather?.
Wait, why am I so excited?
Wahahahas.
I'm always available to talk; just because I'm not actively blogging doesn't mean my brain stops working :)
And no, you can't.
